These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of DFP Newswire ("the Wire"), operated by Dismal Freedom Press ("DFP"). By using the Wire — whether to read releases, submit a release, subscribe to notifications, or purchase advertising — you agree to these Terms.
DFP Newswire is a press release distribution service operated by Dismal Freedom Press, an independent investigative newsroom covering California's Central Valley. The Wire publishes releases submitted by organizations and distributes them to readers, journalists, and subscribers. Wire distribution is editorially independent from DFP's investigative coverage.
Who may submit. Press releases may be submitted by organizations, government agencies, nonprofits, businesses, and institutions. Releases must relate to newsworthy organizational activity — announcements, reports, events, policy positions, and similar public interest content.
Accuracy. Submitters are solely responsible for the accuracy of all content in their releases. By submitting, you represent that the release is accurate to the best of your knowledge and that you are authorized to submit on behalf of the named organization.
Content standards. DFP will not publish releases that contain defamatory content, verifiably false statements of fact, harassment, discriminatory content, illegal solicitations, or material that violates the rights of third parties.
Editorial notes. DFP reserves the right to append an editorial note to any published release. Editorial notes are clearly labeled, written independently by DFP staff, and governed by the DFP Ethics Policy. Editorial notes do not alter the release text.
Right to decline. DFP may decline to publish any submission at its sole editorial discretion, with or without explanation.
Media contact publication. The contact information provided in your submission will be published publicly as part of the release. Do not submit contact information you do not wish to make public.
Free releases are published on the Wire and indexed publicly. Paid tiers include additional distribution, faster review, and featured placement as described at the time of submission. Fees for paid releases are non-refundable once the release has been reviewed and published.
Advertising on the Wire is sold on a cost-per-thousand-impressions (CPM) basis through advertiser accounts. By creating an account and purchasing ad credits, you agree to the following:
Subscribing to the Wire means you will receive email notifications when new releases are published. You may unsubscribe at any time. We will not share your email address with third parties.
Press releases submitted to the Wire remain the property of the submitting organization. By submitting, you grant DFP a perpetual, non-exclusive license to publish, distribute, archive, and display the release on the Wire and through its distribution channels (RSS, email, social media).
The DFP Newswire platform, design, and editorial content produced by DFP staff are the property of Dismal Freedom Press and may not be reproduced without permission.
The Wire is provided "as is." DFP makes no warranties regarding uptime, uninterrupted service, or the accuracy of third-party release content. DFP does not endorse the organizations, products, or positions described in submitted press releases.
To the fullest extent permitted by California law, DFP shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Wire or reliance on content published on it. DFP's total liability to any party shall not exceed the amount paid by that party to DFP in the twelve months preceding the claim.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of San Joaquin County, California.
DFP may update these Terms periodically. Continued use of the Wire after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
